Trauma–Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or TF-CBT is a short-term approach that helps children, adolescents, and families overcome the negative impact of early trauma. TF-CBT- has shown to effectively treat problematic patterns in mood and behavior resulting from single, multiple, and complex trauma.
In TF-CBT, cognitive behavioral techniques are utilized to challenge cognitive distortions and improve behavioral reactions. By identifying and challenging cognitive distortions associated with past trauma, you’ll be more able to manage symptoms related to stress, anxiety, and depression.
Components of TF-CBT are:
- Parenting skills
- Affective regulation
- Improved cognitive abilities
- In-vivo exposure
- Child-parent sessions
- Enhanced safety plan
